The Texas Behavioral Health Center is a newly completed state-funded psychiatric hospital opening in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District that is owned by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center.

When fully operational, the 505,000-square-foot facility will house 292 beds – 200 for adult patients and 92 for children and adolescents. As DFW’s first state-funded behavioral health hospital, it is designed to deliver state-of-the-art, patient-centered care in a modern and healing environment. The center provides comprehensive behavioral health treatment and features private patient rooms, abundant access to natural light and nature, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote recovery. The hospital will also provide training to all behavioral health disciplines.

JOB SUMMARY
Works under minimal supervision to provide complex and routine technical assistance to one or more databases and electronic systems in the management of Access Control for UT Southwestern Medical Center.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Education
    High School Diploma or equivalent or 
    Bachelor's Degree 
     
  • Experience
    7 years Experience of technical work in an electronic security environment with High School Diploma, or 
    4 years Experience of technical work in an electronic security environment with Bachelor's Degree. 
     
  • Licenses and Certifications
    (DRIVERS) DRIVERS LICENSE If area of employment requires use of a University-owned vehicle, employee will be required to possess a valid Texas Drivers License, pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check, and complete drivers training (or van training, if applicable), in accordance with UTS Policy 157, appendix B, 
     


JOB DUTIES

  • Performs complex programming, upgrades, preventive maintenance, testing and repairs with respect to the databases and software for the campus-wide access control system, video management system, intrusion detection system, intercom/emergency call box system, and key management system. Includes firmware revisions, software upgrades, backups, and security patches. Also performs hardware upgrades.
  • Diagnoses and resolves complex systems and network problems including coordination between Access Control and components of Information Resources.
  • Functions as liaison between Access Control and security vendors or campus departments for ongoing and special projects, including ensuring vendors and manufacturers are adequately supported, and can obtain remote access to systems to provide any required support. Acts as project manager for small to moderate projects, giving direction to security vendors and other electronic security specialists.
  • Performs inspections of installed security equipment and testing/commissioning of security systems and maintains inspection logs and reports as needed for project management.
  • Evaluates existing infrastructure for new security system additions and produces associated cost estimates.
  • Evaluates, configures, and resolves system configuration problems and ensures effective use of hardware resources on electronic security related systems.
  • Assists in the review and design of new security systems. Consults with users to determine security needs and recommends solutions and assists in identifying associated costs and/or obtaining quotes from vendors. Works with building floor plans and site plans. Utilizes construction software to aid in the design of security related hardware plans.
  • Installs software, personal computers, printers, and other peripherals as required, with a focus on security systems.
  • Researches and tests new security technologies, and evaluates effective application and compatibility with current security systems.
  • Prepares recommendations and obtains quotes for modifications or additions to operating software systems, hardware components, and software applications, with a focus on security systems.
  • Maintains various logs and reports, such as hardware inventory list, repair/service records and equipment failure reports.
  • Submit/maintain/renew IR server registration forms for all security related devices that require static IP addresses.
  • May provide working supervision to other Electronic Security Specialists; trains or assists in training new employees; handles day-to-day questions from other Electronic Security Specialists.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
