JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern is actively seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Systems Technician to lead the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of our complex 138kv substation and electrical distribution system. We are looking for someone with a minimum of twelve (12) years of hands-on work experience, strong troubleshooting/problem-solving skills, strong blueprint literacy, mentorship abilities, and a proven track record of driving operational safety and infrastructure reliability.

As a Senior Electrical Systems Technician, you will apply advanced diagnostic expertise to solve critical system failures, ensure strict compliance with NEC and OSHA safety standards, and mentor junior technicians; this position works under minimal supervision to provide skilled work in evaluation and testing functions for electrical systems.

Work Location: Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations as needed.

Shift Requirement: 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday; requires 24/7 on-call/emergency availability.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Experience
    Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in operating and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. 
     

Preferred

  • Education
    Associate's Degree in a related field. 
     


JOB DUTIES

  • Operate and maintain University owned 138kv substation and 15kv distribution system.
  • Coordinate annual maintenance, installation and repair of high and medium voltage equipment.
  • Write switching procedures for load transfers and isolation with minimum customer disruption.
  • Maintain and analyze preventative maintenance records and recommends repairs and or upgrades.
  • Analyze electrical distribution equipment annual thermographic surveys data and generate report.
  • Review annual distribution transformers oil analysis test results and determine any action required.
  • Work with consulting engineering firms on all electrical upgrades.
  • Insure all contractor work complies with UT specifications and policies and is performed safely.
  • Respond to electrical equipment emergency call-ins 24/7 and restore power in a timely manner.
  • Review electrical drawings and submittals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
