JOB SUMMARY
Work under general supervision to assist in technical work of research laboratory or project. This job includes performing routine, standard, and the least complex technical laboratory duties. 

Support research efforts of basic science laboratories by assisting them maintain glassware and process autoclave materials using institutional equipment.  Interact with laboratory personnel to communicate related guidelines and compliance information.

Lab duties for this position include: 1. Maintain and wash glassware for multiple PI laboratories within the Molecular Biology Department. 2. Operate all equipment in the prep room, including washers, driers, and autoclaves. 3. Maintain, oversee, and organize common areas in the department. 4. Perform basic, routine procedures as prescribed by supervisor. 5. Autoclaving biohazard material and keeping records. 6. Communicating guidelines and compliance information to laboratories. 7. Coordinating service calls and keeping Department Manager advised of service issues and status of repairs. Also, alerting user labs of service down times. 8. Order or ensure that necessary supplies are ordered and inventoried to maintain adequate stock. 9. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Education
    High School Diploma or GED equivalent 
     
  • Experience
    1 year experience in laboratory work as Laboratory Technical Assistant I, or an equivalent 
     


JOB DUTIES

  • Prepares laboratory specimens.
  • Assembles and operates standard laboratory equipment.
  • Collects and records data which may involve arithmetic computations.
  • Prepares standard reagents and culture media.
  • Examines experimentally infected laboratory animals to detect and record symptoms associated with variety of animal diseases.
  • Draws blood from animals by cardiac puncture.
  • Prepares animals for surgery or intravenous injection.
  • Prepares anesthetic agents and induces anesthesia in animals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
