JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern is actively seeking a Senior Staff Veterinarian to play a key role in advancing biomedical research through the delivery of exceptional medical and surgical care for research animals. This position upholds the highest standards of animal welfare, regulatory compliance, and ethical research practices.
Working under moderate supervision, the Senior Staff Veterinarian collaborates closely with researchers and institutional committees, supports animal health programs, oversees quarantine and colony health, and serves as a trusted expert on animal health matters, including providing leadership support in the absence of the Animal Resources Center Director. ACLAM board certification is preferred but not required.
Work Location: Animal Resource Center (Dallas Campus); 100% onsite.
Shift Requirement: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; rotate with colleagues on weekends and holidays.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
- DVM or VMD degree from Accredited Veterinarian Medical Association school, and
- Completion of two (2) to three (3) year postdoctoral training program in laboratory animal medicine
- Experience
- 3 years to five (5) years related veterinary experience.
- 3 years to five (5) years related veterinary experience.
- Licenses and Certifications
- Current license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States Upon Hire
- Current license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States Upon Hire

JOB DUTIES
- Provides medical and surgical care for research animals.
- Coordinates health assessments of incoming non-commercial research animals.
- Assists in Institutional Animal Care and Research Advisory Committee protocol reviews.
- Represents Animal Resources Center Director concerning animal health issues in event of his/her absence.
- Communicates with research staff and faculty regarding animal health and welfare.
- Coordinates quarantine and health maintenance of animal colonies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
